Not Seeing Usage, Should I Delete My Account?

The answer to whether you should delete your account is no. Deleting the account and creating a new one will not solve the issue of not seeing current data.

The answer to the question of why you’re not seeing current data often depends on what type of water meter you have.

Manually Read Meters

If you signed up for EyeOnWater via the EyeOnWater web postal (www.eyeonwater.com or www.eyeonwater.ca), it’s possible that your water meter is read manually. Water companies typically read such meters once per month, every other month, or every three months. As a result, new usage data will only be visible in your web portal dashboard after your water company reads the meter. The EyeOnWater smartphone apps do not currently support displaying usage from manually read meters.

Smart Meters

If you have one of our smart water meters, that is, your water meter probably sends data to our system one of two ways:

  • by network gateway via a transmitter in a device called a fixed network endpoint
  • Or via cellular radio in a cellular endpoint.

If your meter transmits data over a network gateway, that gateway might be offline.

If you meter transmits data via a cellular endpoint, like a cellphone, its signal can be temporarily affected by a variety of things: Proximity to strong electromagnetic signals, being covered by a lot of foliage or large metal objects like a car, and even rain are possible culprits. When the signal power drops below a certain level, your meter will not be able to connect to the system.

In either case, your meter is still recording and storing data. Whenever the gateway goes back online or your cellular endpoint’s signal power returns to normal, the stored data will get sent to EyeOnWater.

If you don’t see new data soon, please contact your water company directly and ask them for assistance.

If you are using one of our smartphone apps, it’s possible you just need to refresh its data. To do that:

iOS
Pull down from the top of the screen and releasing. If that doesn’t help, try logging out and logging back in. And if none of that helps, you might try uninstalling and reinstalling the app.

Android
Log out and log back in. If that doesn’t help, you might need to clear the app’s cache. To do that:

Open device Settings, and select Apps.
Find the EyeOnWater app, tap it, and select Storage.
Tap Clear cache to delete all cached data for the selected app.
